5 ways to manage heavy periods

Heavy periods or menorrhagia can disturb the normal life of a woman in multiple ways. The problems like cramps, strains, and frequent mood swings can give both mental and physical discomforts.

Some women can get relief by using hot water bags or pain relievers, and for some people, it can be disturbing as they need to change their heavy flow pads every hour.

Though many women are facing the problems of the heavy period, they have less idea about how to manage this. Their everyday activities get hampered by this problem.

The only way out is to choose the right high-absorbent sanitary pads and manage their heavy flow to live a stress-free period. You may wonder what can be the symptoms of heavy periods. So, here are some points to help you out.

Symptoms of heavy period

  • Period continuing for more than seven days
  • Abdominal pain
  • Bleeding through one or more heavy flow pads or tampons every hour.
  • Having blood clots that are bigger than a quarter, etc.

5 ways to manage menorrhagia or heavy period

If you are suffering from the problems of heavy periods and wish to have relief from those problems, then you should follow some crucial steps. Some of those ways are:

  1. Maintain proper hygiene

Keeping yourself clean is a very crucial step if you are facing the problems of a heavy period. Remember to wash regularly with warm water. Do not use any kind of soapy or other chemical liquids for vaginal hygiene, as they are known to be very harsh on the delicate skin of your private parts.

Also, make sure to change sanitary pads once every four to six hours, as this will help to avoid the problems of infections and rashes.

2. Have a well-balanced and healthy diet

Having a balanced diet at the time of your periods can work as a beneficial thing for your body. The reason is, a healthy diet can give your body the right kind of nutrients as well as provide comfort during menstruation.

However, you should not only concentrate on taking healthy supplements only during your periods. Eating healthy all the time can easily strengthen your immunity system and help you to remain healthy.

Women may face a decline in levels of immunity during their menstruation cycle and face a risk of having infections. Hence, eating healthy foods can help them to fight off those risks and offer the body the power to remain healthy and tolerate cramps. Also, remember to take iron-enriched foods and foods having vitamin C.

3. Have plenty of water

During the heavy periods, the blood level of the body goes down; therefore, it is crucial to have a minimum of eight to ten glasses of water per day. Remaining hydrated all day long by drinking a sufficient amount of water can help you in having lesser backaches and fewer cramps.

Moreover, having electrolyte solution or adding some extra salt to the food so that you can balance the excess fluid you are taking.

4. Manage your mood

Mood swing is a common problem in the case of menstruation. So, take small yet frequent meals, avoid alcohol and caffeine to manage the swinging of your mood, and have a stress-free period.

5. Exercise and meditate

Always do some exercises and workouts to manage the problems of heavy periods. Staying physically active can reduce the problematic symptoms of heavy periods.

Hence, these 5 ways can help you a lot in managing your heavy periods and their problems, along with the use of heavy flow pads.
