The Sensor’s Role in Changing Transportation and Modern Living Technology

the sensors role in changing transportation and modern living technology

The word “sensor” is usually associated with industrial applications such as in manufacturing equipment used in food and beverage production. Sensors detect different crucial parameters used in controlling and monitoring specific functions. But sensor application goes beyond the industrial sector. Many people are not aware that most of the innovation available at our fingertips today is made possible through a range of sensing technology.

Broader application of sensors in the industrial sector

Many sensor manufacturers cater specifically to industrial consumers. The general perception about sensors is that they are devices that are part of the more extensive system that makes up machines. The gas industry, for example, requires high-end submersible sensor devices to conduct off-shore drilling.

Equipment used in construction, transport, and processing is also run using a variety of sensors that detect position and provide feedback information for control.

Expanded perception of the everyday application of sensors

It is hard to imagine life without sophisticated sensor technology. These devices play crucial roles in safety, comfort, and convenience. Many people do not realise that they are highly dependent on sensors. Home appliances such as clothes driers make use of sensors to detect when it is time to stop. There are many homes today that install automatic lights both as a safety feature and a way to save energy.

One of the most illustrative examples of the enhanced application of sensors in our daily lives is the automatic brake system used in modern cars. If you ask most consumers today, it is likely that a vast majority will admit that they feel safer driving a vehicle with an automatic brake system.

Sensors used in cars detect airflow, pressure, temperature, and fuel flow. Even a car’s HVAC system uses modern sensors to maintain optimal comfort inside the car. Sensors also provide the necessary functionality which enhances the deployment of airbags and turning off fuel in the event of a fire. Cars nowadays are also becoming perceptive with high levels of automation used in self-diagnostics and problem resolution. Compared with cars from several decades ago, the automobile industry has grown by leaps and bounds, thanks to modern sensor technology.

Transforming home life

In addition to transportation, sensors also play a significant role in home life. As technology moves toward greater connectivity and digitalisation, homeowners can look forward to automation in the home. Smart devices such as HVAC systems you can control using an app on your phone are made possible through sensors.

A new range of home appliances is also being manufactured to meet the demand for internet connectivity. For example, you can buy a refrigerator with internet capability so that you can view the contents of your fridge and know precisely what you need to get from the store before you head home.

The growing focus on technology and automation in the 21st century will continue to raise the demand for smarter and more robust sensors. It is only a matter of time before our daily lives resemble those often depicted only in the movies.
