2020 Thoughts: Should You Protect Your Immune System To Protect The Health Of Others?

2020 thoughts should you protect your immune system to protect the health of others
ADVERTISEMENT. Protecting your immune system is a personal undertaking which can help you stay healthy, even when there are sicknesses going around. But have you ever thought of protecting your immune system to protect the health of others? That may seem like a strange concept, so let’s dive into it a bit, and explain how protecting your own immune system, can actually help others stay healthy.

How does your immune system work?

Let’s start with the basics: how exactly does your immune system work? When a foreign invader enters your body, which is trying to get you sick, your immune system senses the invader.

Your body then starts making antibodies, which look for that specific invader, to destroy it, and keep you healthy. When your immune system is strong, it can efficiently fight off these foreign pathogens, and keep you healthy. When your immune system is weak, you’re much more likely to get sick.

Why protecting your immune system impacts the health of others

You may be a healthy individual, who can recover from anything relatively easily. Most people are in this boat and can recover quite easily.

But some people are more likely to struggle recovering from certain conditions, especially if they’re in vulnerable groups. Vulnerable groups include those who are immunocompromised and the elderly.

If a more resilient person is carrying an illness, they are able to then transmit it to someone else. That someone else may also be resilient, but they may also be more vulnerable.

The point is, when your immune system is weak, and you become sick, it’s likely you’re not the only one who will suffer. It’s very likely you’ll pass on that sickness to others without even knowing it, and there’s a possibility it could be far worse for other people.

How can you best protect yourself and others?

If you want to keep yourself healthy and protect the health of others around you, there are some steps you can take to boost your immune system. Getting enough rest, quitting cigarettes, eating fruits and vegetables, and exercising regularly are all steps that can help protect your immune system.

One of the biggest factors in your immune system may be your nutritional intake. It’s crucial to get the vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients your body needs to maintain a strong immune system, especially if you’re starting to feel under the weather.
