I have nothing less than 552 comments to moderate, 95% of which are comment spam… All posted within the past 24 hours. This is sad.

tell me about it. i have it nowhere near that bad [about 30-40 spam comments per day], but it’s getting increasingly annoying. comment spam is lame.

You may well have mentioned it before, but I’ve been using Spam Karma 2 and it works pretty well.

You need to implement some kind of catchpa like I did on my blog. Now I get no spam at all! They can’t even get through to moderation. I love beating the spammers at their own game!

I have just read about that on Matt Cutts’ Blog. Read thru his latest blog entry, it seems not too hard to do (I think, so when you’re done, let me know how to do it

Hello,
I use to get a lot of spam. Now I have only gotten two in last six months.
I use all of these together to stop spam.
Spam Karma 2 – Reloaded, Bad Behavior, Bad Behavior Blackhole, Blacklist, CJD Spam Nuke, Referrer Bouncer, Mod-Rewrite Trackback Spam Blocker, WP-Morph, Auto Moderate Comments, Bot Check, WP-Gatekeeper, and WordPress Hashcash .
Take Care,
Will

The way you have this WP setup bypasses server filters for spam. I have been seeing tons of hits here, so I guess you have quite a few to moderate.
SpamKarma works wonderfully. In addition we have modsec into the server, you can use it on any htaccess file to forbid words. A good filter is below if you want to try
SecFilterSelective HTTP_Referer|ARGS “free”
SecFilterSelective HTTP_Referer|ARGS “casino”
SecFilterSelective HTTP_Referer|ARGS “sex”
SecFilterSelective HTTP_Referer|ARGS “cash”
SecFilterSelective HTTP_Referer|ARGS “poker”
SecFilterSelective HTTP_Referer|ARGS “loan”
SecFilterSelective HTTP_Referer|ARGS “cialis”
SecFilterSelective HTTP_Referer|ARGS “flu”
SecFilterSelective HTTP_Referer|ARGS “order”
SecFilterSelective HTTP_Referer|ARGS “online”
SecFilterSelective HTTP_Referer|ARGS “game”
SecFilterSelective HTTP_Referer|ARGS “blox.pl”

Ouch…that’s really too bad. I think I have it hard when I have 10 spam comments each morning in my email inbox waiting for moderation..
