Who are you?
Posted by Patricia Müller under Internet and Net Culture , Personal | 9:15 pm[82] Comments
I know there are people from different parts of the world that come to this blog. My my stats show that most people are from the US, England and Germany, but I see visitors from several different countries. As I was looking through my stats, I started thinking “Wouldn’t it be nice to actually know these people instead of just be looking at ‘them’ as stats, charts, aggregated data and IP addresses? Where do they live, what do they do, what do they think, why are they here?”
I have many friends from all across the globe and I find it incredibly interesting to meet people from other countries. This goes way back, I started penpalling when I was around 12 I think, when the internet wasn’t even around. I would exchange letters and small gifts with boys and girls from other countries and I remember feeling very excited every time a new letter arrived in the mail. In each letter, I could see a different perspective on life, I was fascinated by it. Then I went abroad a few times and not only did I experience some of these different perspectives, but I also ended up making friends who I stayed in touch with for several years afterwards. I wonder how many more people I would have been able to meet if the internet was around in my teen years and early twenties. Wow, that would have been great!
So, I was sitting here thinking about this and decided to write this post. And ask you: Who are you? Where do you live? What do you do? Why are you here? I’m really interested. So, if you’re reading this, please introduce yourself, either in the comments or send me an email if you care about being more detailed or would rather keep it more private. (mpatricia at gmail.com). I realize this could generate either zero replies or so many that I might have trouble writing back, anything can happen, but I think it’s worth a shot. Even if we have no interests in common whatsoever, I would still like to know who you are. Be creative, if you feel so inclined. Cite a quote that means something to you, share a point of view on any given subject, I don’t know, give me a little bit of your own perspective. Even just basic info will do, if you feel it will be nice to introduce yourself but don’t care to share further details. I’m sure there are plenty of cool interesting people reading this blog, so, I’d really like to know who you are. Go ahead, don’t be shy! Post a comment or send me an email, as you will. And who knows, I might even make some cool new friends.

I’m from Murcia (Spain), and I only want you to improve this theme. We need more stuff in this beautiful css!
September 20th, 2006 at 3:38 pm
Hi! This is the very first theme I have ever used and it is beautiful!
) I also started penpalling when I was 12 and I still keep in touch with my Japanese pen pal whom I started exchanging letters with for 13 years.
Sorry to have rambled on, I will send you an email instead

*Waves* to Keshe.
Anna, thanks for your email, it was very nice! I wrote you back and hope you reply.
Chris, thanks for introducing yourself, now I’m on my way to read your blog too.
Joachin, I hoped someone from Germany would comment.
I have spent a whole month in Germany and loved it. I used to speak fairly fluent german, but not practicing it enough hasn’t helped in keeping it fluent at all (argh). Alles gutte!

Hi Patricia,
I’m Andrew from the UK where I work as a software developer (Java and just starting Ruby). I came across your design via http://www.thepoorman.net who also uses this design. I have got rather bored with coding (especially anything involving IBM !) and would like to get more into the design aspect of web development- hence the visit !

“Who Are You?” You’re not a CSI fan by any chance? If you don’t know what I am talking about, don’t worry!
Hi, I’m Jon from England. I can relate to what you say about “if the internet existed in your teens”, it would have been great! I remember well ‘penfriending’ all those years ago!
Good luck with your designing, the site looks very impressive.

Hi Patricia,
I’m absolutely new and totally inexperienced in webblogs but have started my own as of today. See from your blog that you are from Brazil. I am from Denmark but just happens to be in Vienna last week on business and went to a tremendous and beautyfull concert with Marissa Monte. A Brazilian singer. I can only recommend that people get hold of her music.
Have a day filled with laughter and love!
Keep smiling too!

Michel, from Paris, France.
I have many websites, some personal, other for collaborative projects, other are anonymous.
I’m using wordpress and the connections theme for most of my websites, linking all of them in a way.
More over the connections themes is spreading over other tools I use : Coppermine and Gallery photo albums. e.g. This gives me the opportunity to have the same look and feel throughout my entire sites.
I just ported the connections theme to punbb ( my first try at css writing), and I’m trying to adapt if to Mediawiki , as I’m using this in one of my sites.
Some sites :
my personal photo project (WP+Gallery) : http://pecheurdimages.net
A global photoproject : http://adayonearth.net/2006
The hiking club site : http://rando.mjcfresnes.free.fr (WP+Coppermine+Punbb+Mediawiki)

Hi I’m Kathy from Long Beach, CA. i stumbled onto your blog through someone elses blog and i enjoy reading your posts.
September 27th, 2006 at 1:11 pm
I’m Dan Fuhry, a PHP developer and general-purpose geek
. I liked the Connections theme so I thought I’d let you know that I ported it to Enano, http://enano.homelinux.org/. I sent you an e-mail about that awhile back. Great job on the theme BTW, can’t wait for 2.0!
I also like Linux, uber-cool 3D desktops, and AJAX. AJAX is soooooo cool. It cleans your sink, busts the Iranian government, raids Spain, and powers your Gmail.

I’m developing a blogging site for a friend. He was using Wordpress with your Connections theme. And I’m in the process of converting the blog over to my own php framework that can emulate Wordpress. And since your design is so good, I’ve kept the theme and converted it over as well.

Hi, I’m Occam from Denmark, and I use your great theme on my model railroad blog http://mj-blog.dk.
I’ve modified it somewhat, but it still looks a lot like the original beautiful theme.
Thanks for making the best theme…

Hi, I’m a South African living and blogging in Germany. I’ve just switched to Connections and I love it, but I just can’t work out how to add my About Me that I used in Kubrick to this theme. Any Tips? Thanks for a great theme.

Hello! Long time no talk! I was just thinking about you today. I hope things are going well. Drop me a line when you the chance.
October 10th, 2006 at 7:04 am
Hi Patricia (Pat?). I originally used your brilliant theme on my site (www.chrismerriman.com), and am very grateful for all your hard work. I’ve since changed themes, but have recommended yours to a few friends.
I’m assuming I’ve shown up in your stats package (Kazakhstan ;>) I’m from the UK originally, moved over here in April.
Favourite quotes? Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers have supplied a few, but don’t want to type them out in a possible family-friendly blog. Feel free to google the comic, you might like it. Other than that perhaps ‘BITFO’ from my days in Cheltenham (Bring It The F$%^ On), courtesy of a brilliant girl called Zanya, normally just before heading for a good night out clubbing.
(btw message to Charlotte, two above this, the About link on your page now appears fine, so I’m assuming you fixed your problem?)
I generate web sites that are full of articles on whatever people are searching for that month, I won’t spam your comments with all the links, but if anyone is interested, most are already linked from my blog. The income is courtesy of Google’s AdSense scheme. Have you ever considered adding it here Patricia? You can choose to have small, subtle, text only ads, and whilst it may not be a huge income, it can help towards the cost of hosting or your internet connection…
ha, lmao, that will serve me right, just checked the end of your original post at the top, and there it was, a google ad block…
Anyway, I shall leave you all in peace now, hope all who read this do so in good health, in mind if not in body…
October 10th, 2006 at 8:32 am
Hi Patricia!
What a great idea for a post, I’d try it myself only I don’t think many people read my ‘blog’ (ghastly word)! We used Connections for my site, and it works great – see what you think.
Thanks

Hi, I’m from England.
I’m an undergraduate studying artifical intelligence and cybernetics.
My University made one of these blog things compulsory, which is fairly lame. Anyway, I stumbled across your blog by selecting your theme, reading the author info and coming here to see if there would be anymore themes here. Perhaps one I would like…
Then after reading your post I decided to drop you a line. So… here we are.

…
Can’t think of anything else to say, so I’ll get out of your life.
Bye!

Hi Patricia,
Mark J. from Charleston, IL. I’ve used your wonderful theme on three websites, randomography.com, greasyspoons.net, and my newest, theshakenmartini.com. It’s so easy to change colors and configure and it looks great. Simple, elegant, sensible. Nicely done.

Hi, I’m from Italy and I’m a software engineer. I have a blog and use a porting of your theme for drupal.
The mantainer of the drupal version doesn’t support it anymore so I have to hack css to make this wondeful theme working with new versions of drupal.

Hey! My name is Afroza, from Toronto, Ontario, Canada!
I found this website through my friend’s anime blog which happens to be using this theme. It’s very cute, but not very anime-ish, I think he might want my help in fixing it up.
I’m 18 years old, and I plan to pursue post-secondary education at a local University studying (graphic) Design. I plan to also get my teaching certificate from the same university and hopefully teach others how to design as I love to help!
I own a domain (afro-chan.net) which is also my portfolio and I mostly use it to host my friend’s websites.
^^ Anyways, I’ll end it here. Hope you had a nice day!
October 26th, 2006 at 7:30 pm
I’m from Michigan! I just switched my theme to this theme and so far I like it. I was able to find the same theme for my photo pages (using coppermine). It’s one of a few themes that I’m able to find for both. One of these days I’ll figure out how to make more advance changes and maybe even come up with my own theme.
Anyway, just wanted to let you know that I’m using your theme and thank you for your work on it
October 28th, 2006 at 1:38 am

Got your theme from wp on the .org site. Totally love it. And because I ams who I ams, I am learning more about the coding and modifying colors.
I am a Business Consultant in the East Bay Area of California, Antioch to be exact.

Hi. I am from the state of Missouri in the U.S.A. I stumbled upon your site blog hopping. Your link was on the footer of a friend’s blog at Grey Monkey and Almost Librarian. They are using your beautiful theme.
A little bit about me:
I am female.
Professionally: I am a freelance translator. I am bilingual, and speak both english and spanish fluently. I’m a spanish tutor. I managed a resort in Mexico. I translated for the Mexican Policia Judicial del Estado (PJE – Judicial State Police), and also the local police in the city I lived in. I was in the U.S.A.F. (United States Air Force).
I fix computers when people foul them up. I write numerous articles and have been published. I freelance designing websites, and am a member of the HTML Writer’s Guild, and an associate member of the International Webmaster’s Association. I worked for Green Peace.
I enjoy helping others, and have done charity work for shelters for battered women and children. I also volunteered to tutor forensics/debate and spanish at the University I attended.
I am left leaning politically. I can’t stand George Bush and what his administration is doing to my country. I am anti-war, anti-globalization, anti-censorship, anti-propaganda and anti-republican.
My favorite qoute is: Big Brother wants to line us up, strip us down. Dress us in a numbered gown. Segregated, labled, and put in place. Nothing but a number with out a face.
Now you know a little about me. What about you?

I’m from Portland Oregon and Haiku, Maui, a semi-retired direct and interactive advertising exec (www.bnj.com) and I’m screwing around with Wordpress to keep my hand in. I’ve just started. I’m running a local version of wordpress on my laptop (MacBook Pro with MAMP) and just stuck a blog up on a hosted Linux server. Still figuring things out. I found your very nice theme and started fiddling with it. thanks for the hard work.
I’m in Maui right now, mostly windsurfing, surfing, scuba diving, bike riding, hiking and playing around with radio controlled slope gliders. I’m starting a little local business doing vacation rentals and activities brokering online, and I’m somewhat convinced that a blog-based site is the right way to do this–give people good information and sell things incidentally.
all the best to you, I’ll read around in your blog.

Hi, I am Ben from HKSAR, and would love to make someting nice, like how you have made this site look nice with a cool theme. Maybe if I can feel less sleepy, or if I am not working all the time, then perhaps… Perhaps then I will not be running out of new ideas. Or maybe it is just ageing. Anyway, congratulations on such a beautiful design. The look reminds me of driving/cruising in a nice big quiet car, taking my time and on my way home. Cheers.

Funny story, I dated a Müller years ago. We were in love, and still are. But she’s somewhere else, locked into a life she never really wanted, and I’m here writing about her ten years later. Long story, very Romeo and Juliette. Hey, I dated a girl named Juliette as well. Never dated a Patricia, but my best friend in high school was named Patrick and I almost dated his sister.
You seem to be very good at the things you do, I hope the things you do make you happy.
